In the Book of Jeremiah, the prophet reminds God's people that He will not abandon them forever but that a time will come when He will make a new covenant (Jer 31) and that He will give them a new heart to know that He is the Lord. This promise if fulfilled in the coming of Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Salvation in all ages begins with the grace of God. It is a stark reminder that, left to our own devices we would be hopelessly lost to the world; to sin; and to judgment under God's wrath.
Thankfully, we serve a God who reaches down from heaven and reveals himself to His creatures. The fulfillment of the revelation we read about in Jeremiah 24:7 is found in Jesus Christ the Son. This prophecy points to the spiritual renewal of all God's people thru repentance and faith in Him; His life, death, burial, and glorious resurrection. You see, God must do what man cannot do for himself - keep the law of righteousness for salvation. Most Christian's understand that what we call Christ's passive obedience in His death has paid the price for our sin. But many fail to understand that we are counted righteous because of His active obedience in that He kept the law of God for righteousness on our behalf. Christ is only able to pay the price for sinful man because, as a man, He accomplished what Adam failed to do - keep the law perfectly before God.
So, what are we to do? This is a great question. Here is the answer: receive the Lord Jesus Christ in repentance (turning from your ways, wisdom, and words and turning to God's) and faith (believing that what God says is true and then acting on it). Faith without action or obedience is nothing more than intellectual ascent & acknowledgement. This is precisely what the devil does. The devil believes in God but refuses to obey Him. This is not faith. It is rebellion. But saving faith hears the word; repents; and then does what it says: believes on Jesus and His works for salvation. How is this faith displayed? Thru obedience and good works, not for salvation but because of it.
In this, one can have assurance that God has fulfilled His promise in their life thru the words of the prophet Jeremiah that a day would come in which God would give His people a heart to know Him, love Him, and walk in His ways. That day is today friend! And this can be true for you even now in the face of the King, the Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit whom He gives to all who receive Him!
